Jay The Pro Barber

Allow me to reintroduce myself.
My name is Jay Laird
AKA... JAY, “THE  PRO  BARBER”
Barbering isn’t just what I do,
it’s who I am.

Jay is a Pittsburgh native, a U.S. Army Veteran, and the visionary behind The Pro’s Barber Shop. With over a decade of experience, Jay’s barber journey ignited at Fort Lee, Virginia while serving in the Army. What started as a practical necessity, maintaining a fresh cut every week, quickly sparked a lifelong passion. After honeing his craft at the Barber School of Pittsburgh and graduating in 2017, Jay earned his Barber Manager’s License and set his sights on building something lasting. In March 2022, Jay took a leap of faith, opening his own multicultural shop in the midst of a global pandemic. For Jay, barbering isn't just a career; it’s a lifestyle rooted in purpose and community.

To Jay, every haircut is about more than just a look, it’s about confidence, presence, and preparing clients for life’s most significant milestones. "My favorite part of this profession is being a part of those special moments". Whether it’s a wedding, a graduation, a first date, or a milestone birthday, we prepare you to show up as your best self. To say I love what I do is an understatement; it truly defines who I am. "
When he isn't at the shop, Jay is a devoted father to his two daughters, Jaelyn and Lailah, who serve as his daily inspiration to lead by example. Clients are also likely to meet Luna, Jay’s loyal black lab/boxer mix and official shop companion, who ensures every visitor feels right at home.

An enthusiast of the outdoors, Jay also enjoys shooting pool and traveling to coastal destinations like Florida and Puerto Rico to recharge by the ocean. Whether you’re looking for a sharp transformation or a welcoming environment, Jay, The Pro Barber is committed to excellence in every detail.

Evan Ferguson

My name is Evan Ferguson, and I’m originally from a small town 65 miles north of Pittsburgh - Greenville, Pennsylvania. I studied communications at Penn State Behrend and have built my professional experience in sales, public relations, and journalism. Since 2016, I’ve also been cutting hair, something that started as a hobby and blossomed into a true passion. I’m as loyal a fan of all things Pittsburgh sports, as well as Penn State! I love writing, spending time with close friends on the North Shore, and traveling with my longtime girlfriend. At home, I’m a proud cat dad of two, Pancake and Piper.

I would say that my specialty for men’s styles would be all forms of fading. Drop fades, burst, taper, high and tight, etc. I specialize in culturally diverse hair textures, from thinner to finer and more coarse hair. As for shear work, shorter-mid scissor cuts I am extremely confident and comfortable. I’m excited for the opportunity to serve the West View and surrounding areas of Pittsburgh alongside Jay. I take the craft very seriously, and I want you to leave my chair believing that every single time.
